Who Needs a Smoke Alarm Upgrade?
Smoke alarm legislation in Queensland has changed — and many Brisbane homes are still not up to standard. If your property is being sold, leased, or renovated, you must have interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms installed in:
- Every bedroom
- Hallways outside bedrooms
- Each level of the home
These alarms must comply with Australian Standard AS3789:2014 and be either hardwired or wirelessly interconnected.
From 1 January 2022: Compliance is required for any home being sold or leased.
From 1 January 2027: All existing homes must meet the new standard.
